Boron # 10 (Na2SO4.H3BO3)

CAS/TSCA Number 183290-63-3

Description: Boron #10, also known as sodium polyborate, is a free-flowing, white, crystalline salt. Boron, the key element in Boron #10, is an essential micronutrient and is present in all foods, particularly fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts. The average person consumes between one to three milligrams each day as part of a normal healthy diet. Boron occurs naturally in air, water, and soil.

Boron #10 is a neutral 7.0 inorganic salt often used as an agricultural micronutrient, deodorizer, insecticide, smolder, and flame retardant. Despite its use as an insecticide, the LD50 toxicology of Boron #10 is about the same as table salt. When used as an insecticide, the product must carry an EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) registration number. When Boron #10 is sold as an insecticide it is labeled under the name Zone DefenseŽ. Boron #10 is available from InCideŽ Technologies in both powder and granular technical grades packaged in 50 and 100 pound multiwall paper bags. Granular Boron #10 is also available in 2,400 pound tote containers. InCideŽ Technologies grinds Boron #10 into powder the day prior to shipment to assure the freshest material to be found.

Properties: Boron #10 has a specific gravity of 1.4 and is soluble in water (7.46% at 770F/250C). When heated, Boron #10 gives off water and becomes more anhydrous. Boron #10 contains no volatile organic components and is used typically as an extender or replacement to boric acid in many applications.

Stability: Boron #10 is stable and does not change under normal storage conditions. Wide fluctuations in temperature and humidity can result in caking. Care should therefore be taken to avoid such fluctuations during storage of the product.
