Borax 5 Mol (Na2B4O7.5H2O)
CAS Number 12179-04-34
TSCA Number 1330-43-4
Description: Borax 5 mol, also known as sodium borate pentahydrate, is a free-flowing, white, crystalline salt. Boron, the key element in borax 5 mol, is an essential micronutrient and is present in all foods, particularly fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts. The average person consumes between one to three milligrams each day as part of a normal healthy diet. Boron occurs naturally in air, water, and soil. Borax 5 mol is a very good buffer often used in detergents, water softeners, soaps, disinfectants, insecticides and flame retardants. Despite its use as an insecticide, the LD50 toxicology of borax 5 mol is about the same as table salt. When used as an insecticide, the product must carry an EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) registration number. Borax 5 mol is available from InCide® Technologies in a granular technical grade packaged in 50 and 100 pound multiwall paper bags or 2,000 pound tote containers. InCide® Technologies packages borax 5 mol the day prior to shipment to assure the freshest material to be found.
Properties: Borax 5 mol has a specific gravity of 1.88 and is soluble in water (4.43% at 770F/250C). When heated, borax 5 mol gradually loses its water of hydration until reaching an anhydrous state. Borax 5 mol hydrolyzes in water forming a mild alkaline solution capable of neutralizing acids or lowering pH.
Stability: Borax 5 mol is stable and does not change under normal storage conditions. Wide fluctuations in temperature and humidity can result in caking. Care should therefore be taken to avoid such fluctuations during storage of the product.
